The New World Begins

May 3rd, 2008

Possibly today was the final revision. The entry now is graded as too long.

This  New World Post Under-on-Going Construction since 05/01/08: this edit 05/12/08; again on 05/14/08; Today it is May 19th and here I am again, still fixing The World.

During the time of re-editing China has cracked in half. While I was writing this Burma (I like that name better) dropped under water. While I was planning this piece, tornadoes danced all around my children in Virginia and Maryland and my mother in law in Arkansas and my friend in Alabama. Times are getting worse or I just care for more people or we have too much information.  Before the China 7.9 quake we had a hole six football fields long and over 250 feet deep form in Liberty County, Texas. Is there a root in Texas reaching further than we imagine? Is it true that if we dig a hole in Texas we will end up in China? We have instant disaster live news reporting.  Everything that happens is in our face immediately, rough, un-cut, backed up with satellite reality TV.  I see seasoned news commentators at a loss for words with a voice that says, ‘What Next?’ ’Where Next?’ I look on an old globe in an antique store and hold my palm on China. Then with my mind, I draw line through the globe attaching the quake to the Galapagos Islands.  I see those islands in my sleep now.  Those islands, according to an ancient legend of the third world are the nesting place for the sea turtles which carried the people to safety in a flood that en-undated their homeland.  When the water receded, the turtles transformed the inhabitants into eggs and laid them on sandy beaches to hatch in the warm sun and birth the fourth world.  Those islands taught Darwin the beginning of the species, changed history and began the science of anthropology. They have long strong roots throughout the planet and I wonder.  I just sit here in the middle of technology and wonder.

Writing is all about the wording of one’s thoughts and feelings.  The more intense the desire the greater the difficulty in conveying that desire to others on the written page. The following are thoughts on the levels of Change.

All things in motion.  Change is a law of Physics in a constant state of Quantum flux.

There is a rather predictable 1000 year pendulum swing, give or take twenty years on either side which sets into motion a cultural change.  This change may be psychological, philosophical or an explosive shift in the governing powers. Any one of these three changes will threaten the inhabitants’ familiar understanding of their culture, community and country of origin. The future of the individual and the surrounding population will be measured by how they lived through the changes.

In the global village that we have today, when one country experiences a major cultural change, it will trickle over boarder lines and effect the surrounding cultures.  The trickle over will continue as though a slow moving tide.

We humans are either living in the result of change or we find ourselves in the middle of the mayhem of change or we see change coming toward us.  We may not know whether to fight or embrace the changes.  We may even seek change and then realize we did not want that much of it after all.

Closely examine Change on a far more devastating scale.  Consider the measurable repetition of a possible polar axis shift.  Bulges on our planet’s surface indicate that this event has occurred at least four times. Now the news is all about the melting of our polar ice caps. This future event would cause devastating consequences to the planet. The island of Fiji could possibly become the new South Pole.  Ecologists are quick to set up non-profit organizations receiving astounding environmental monitary rewards for clean up the planet programs.

My question is what caused the other polar shifts?  It was not BP and SUVs.

The entire planet shook for the ’06 Christmas Tsunami.  The possibility of the next plate shifting and resulting tsunami’s epicenter could easily be located off of the Galapagos Islands.

Every 50,000 years give or a take a 1000 on either side our planet enters a cosmic event; a large multiple meteor strike sailing past Jupiter’s gravitational pull, slamming Earth once again.  This will not be recorded in our history.  There will be no history.

We realize along with the dinosaurs, “Shit Happens”.  Either we do it or it does us.

No matter how we perceive the planet or our place upon it, we must realize that in the myriad of solar systems Earth is expendable.  It is egotistical to purport that we are the only intelligent life planet.  Some place might actually be more intelligent. Or we might be considered strange food for their hungry world.  We could become the Co-Op Farm of some distant solar system.

The function of the cosmos makes our fragile blue rock perishable cargo.  The case might be expanded to suggest that Planet Earth becomes a burnt out orb;  a large rotating fossil composed of us along with our architectural wonders, and our important catalogued thoughts archived on plastic disks. In an instant all turned into embers, lumps of ash swirling in the void, rings wrapped around a wandering asteroid with a history no one knows.

This planet has had many endings, beginnings and renewals.  That has an election worthy positive ring to it; call it a cleansing. But then that would indicate that we actually need the cleansing.

Now we simply cannot have that; can we?

We seek change without discomfort or upsetting our personal apple carts. The consumer mentality of me me thinking; my house, my yard, my stuff, my life falling as a reluctant victim to change is infinitesimal when held up to the mammoth changes that our planet is continuing to experience.

We have traveled together through accounts of Change on a personal level, at our front door step, in our culture, our borders, and our planet. Now look at Change on a cosmic level.

We see one maxim: Change is not to be controlled.  Old Man River and Change just keep rolling along.

This planet is our only source of travel through our solar system and we are steadily sucking it dry and creating one big latrine.  If we don’t cause The Big One then the abundant supply of methane gas embedded in the earth will cause it.  And we keep drilling through the fragile crust at it thinnest places.

A large rogue asteroid could make a slow fly-by and suck away our moon.  Did you ever think of that?

Change is always on the way.  Hold on tight and remember, we bought the ticket to ride.

I may write and re-write on this one for several more weeks.  Every day or two, it is a word or two here and there that comes under scrutiny.  Tonight I have been writing on changes for 20 days.

    About

Life #4 began in 2000. I found and married my high school sweetheart, 42 years later. Paul is a scientific psychologist. I am a mix; artist/writer/singer; often called Renaissance Woman. We both believe in partnerships. Therefore, this Blog is about relationships: pairs, families, nations, planets and galaxies. We are not alone. Entities pair up, even if only with themselves; creating black holes.
